Did you know that regular exercise can lower an individual’s risk of Alzheimer’s and vascular dementia. The Alzheimer’s Association reports, “evidence suggests exercise may directly benefit brain cells by increasing blood and oxygen flow. Even stronger evidence suggests exercise may protect brain health through its proven benefits to the cardiovascular system.” Luckily for residents of Erickson Living communities, the Memory Support Program can help individuals improve their memory health. At Charlestown in particular, the Memory Support Committee offers a number of Memory Fitness courses to its residents.
Young or old, YOU can start exercising to protect your body and brain. And on Friday August 15th from 12:30-3:00 pm, we are providing a unique opportunity to do just that. Whether you are a competitive college athlete or a recreational lap swimmer, we invite you to help us raise funds for the Charlestown Benevolent Fund and Alzheimer’s Association in our first ever Laps for Memory Fitness. By participating in this event, you will become a Memory Fitness Warrior.
As a Memory Fitness Warrior, you will find sponsors to donate according to the number of laps you complete during the event. Sponsors can also donate at a flat rate instead of by lap. Proceeds from the swim-a-thon will be split between the Charlestown Benevolent Fund and the Alzheimer’s Association. Charlestown will use this money to further develop its Memory Support Program and the Alzheimer’s Association will fund Alzheimer’s research and care. I sincerely hope you will take part in Laps for Memory Fitness!
